Open space and wine research center in Porto
The project is located in the Portuguese city of Porto at a point of particular importance, as it forms the core of a new civic engineering project. This is a growing, evolving area in which to build a large hub that allows for the influx of many visitors. Contemporary architecture has been steadily implemented here, contrasting sharply with earlier more traditional forms. In addition it is a very important boundary between the city of Porto and its neighbouring conurbations, and occupies the space for a large urban park.
Our proposal is not linked to either extreme of modern or old architecture but rather is aimed at unifying both. The discovery of a wine bottling factory in the same area was of vital importance to our project. We proposed that this factory was ideally suited to act as a liaison between the two parties. On the one hand, we created an educational area within the factory for the study of wine production that included an exhibition centre, library and public space plaza. Elsewhere we proposed the implementation of a great gateway link that would connect the factory with the vast park.
